Goals
Membership Services
To increase net membership through strong retention and recruitment programs and to communicate effectively with members and the public to heighten awareness and appreciation of Chamber programs, activities and objectives. Recognition of member participation is paramount; continue to involve and motivate members to participate in programs; develop an effective schedule of events to best serve the entire membership; and to implement ways to enhance member benefits.
Industrial Division
To enhance the competitiveness and success of local manufacturers and assist in strengthening the local economy; to promote the Drug-Free Workplace Initiative; seek out and support workforce development programs; create an awareness of local industry through facility tours; and continue to promote the national Welfare to Work Partnership Program.
Service Division
Foster opportunities for networking and provide professional development through workshops and seminars; continue current publications such as specialized business brochures, speakers bureau guide, newsletters, maps, directories; promote advertising opportunities for members to showcase their businesses; continue membership and social events. Special focus areas continue: Home-Based Business Network; Multicultural Network Group; and Human Resource Roundtable.

Retail Division
Implement programs that will enhance local retailers; promote superior customer service; continue "Shop Des Plaines" theme and encourage retail programs city-wide; provide tools for successful selling and plan educational programs to assist retailers grow their businesses.
International Division
To promote doing business on a global basis; to assist businesses who wish to enter the international marketplace and to provide services and support to those who are currently in the international arena; continue to provide Export Certification for international shipping.
Legislative Involvement
To study and analyze issues of interest to Des Plaines and its business community; take advocacy positions on issues and communicate Chamber viewpoint to members, elected officials, and community; continue the "FAX Action" Network; arrange legislative trips to Springfield and Washington D.C.; publish information for business regarding "How to Communicate with Government' and encourage business attendance and involvement at City Council meetings.

Education Division
To provide opportunities for personal and professional development of members; promote educational opportunities for and about specific segments of membership; support business/job expansion by educating businesses about local and regional resources; continue to develop ongoing partnerships for the enhancement of economic development and division effectiveness; facilitate the school-to-career transition; recognize and support quality educational programs and educators; continually evaluate existing partnership programs and encourage new ones.
Community Relations
Develop the "Our Business is Business in Des Plaines" theme whenever possible; continue to promote the community as a place to do business in; publish a Community Service year-end report for the community; continue efforts in the areas of safety and crime prevention; and educate residents on the importance of business in a community.
