Des Plaines Office Equipment (DPOE) is a Chicago success story. This second generation,family-owned business opened in 1955 when Vince Miceli began selling used desks and chairs from his garage. Soon thereafter, Mr. Miceli moved the young company to a storefront on Walnut Street in Des Plaines, and became an agent for Olivetti Calculators and Underwood typewriters.
Today, DPOE has expanded to a three-location, second-generation family business that employs 82 people and is a nationally recognized, award-winning firm. DPOE today operates in Chicago (500 North Wells), Elk Grove Village (corporate headquarters) and Rockford (Loves Park). Mr. Miceli’s sons, Chip (President) and Victor (Vice President) took over the business in 1988. The company today posts sales in excess of $14 million, showing strong growth year after year. In the last two years, the company took over two of its smaller Chicago-area competitors, further strengthening it market position. Chip Miceli and DPOE was recently featured in a Crain’s Chicago Business story about area businesses that continue to grow and prosper even in uncertain economic times.
DPOE is a top dealer nationally for the Sharp copier line, and has won Sharp’s highest award, the Hyakuman Kai every year since 1989. DPOE is also a leading dealer for Hewlett Packard (HP) and has been designated an SVIP Elite Dealer, placing it among the top national firms for that brand as well. DPOE also carries Canon, Oki Data and Kyocera.
Des Plaines Office Equipment has further distinguished itself by pioneering a strong print management program that it has implemented with schools, hospitals, Chambers of Commerce, and municipalities -- saving most businesses between 10% and 15% of their annual document generation costs. They have also developed and perfected software programs that monitor equipment usage and condition, both locally and in the field, and can provide, literally, national service support through this program.
DPOE works to perfect and benchmark the industry’s best standards by participation in a national Select Dealer Group, comprised of the industry’s leaders from across the United States.
