“The Wall That Heals”, Arrives September 27, 2017 at

Des Plaines Park District’s Lake Park Pavilion in Des Plaines, Illinois

Des Plaines, Illinois – August 16, 2017

Veterans of Des Plaines are pleased to announce the arrival of “The Wall That Heals”, a traveling half size replica of Vietnam Wall in Washington D.C. at Des Plaines Park District’s Lake Park Pavilion on Lee Street between Touhy and Howard Avenues in Des Plaines. It will be open to the public 24 hrs./day, from evening of September 27th to October 1, 2017.

 

Opening Ceremony – September 28th at 5:00p.m. Participants Include:

The Emerald Society Chicago Police Department Pipes & Drums Corps.,

Color Guard – St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy, Singer - Jeff Blume,

Deacon James Ernst, Guest Speaker – General James Mukoyama,

Buglers Across America and other remembrances.

 

Friday, September 29th at 5:00p.m. Ceremony presenting an opportunity for organizations/groups/families/individuals to present flower or wreaths in memory of individuals or on behalf of all Vietnam Veterans. Contact Tony Arredia 847-774-4622.

 

Saturday, September 30th at 7:00p.m. Candle Light Ceremony (Glow Sticks) Color Guards, Singer TBD, U.S. Army Chaplin Captain Father Matt Foley, Guest Speaker - TBD,

Huey helicopter flyover and Reading of local names from Lake Park Memorial Pavilion Wall and Closing with Taps.

 

Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 2:00pm. – Closing Ceremony remembering Vietnam Veterans that died because of the War, but not in Vietnam. To remember a family member during the event Contact Mike at 224-425-8124.

Background:

“The Wall That Heals” measures 250 feet. Travels across America throughout the year.

The exhibit also provides an educational experience for schools/organizations to familiarize their groups with the history of the Vietnam Era.

Including:

-Digital photos/Names of Servicemen/Women listed on Vietnam Wall in Washington, D.C.
-Letters and memorabilia left at the Wall in Washington, D.C.
-A map of Vietnam, also Chronological Overview of Vietnam War.

Des Plaines Park District’s Lake Park Pavilion in Des Plaines, Illinois

 

The Des Plaines Veterans are again bringing the “Wall That Heals” to the area. The cost of the wall to Des Plaines Park District’s Lake Park is $7,500. As in past visits tremendous support of the community has made the event possible. The goal is to raise $20,000 for support and organizational expense. Bringing The Wall to our community spreads it’s healing legacy to NE Illinois. The Wall’s impact on veterans, loved ones and younger generations brings honor to the more than 58,000 who fell in Vietnam.

 

“The Wall That Heals” escorted from McHenry VFW POST on September 27, 2017  (10:00AM) Motorcycle Honor Guard provided by American Legion Riders,

       Patriot Guard Riders, Iron Justice and State/ Local Police Departments.

The Route: Rt.120 to south on Rand Rd., to Quintin Rd., then Northwest Hwy., to Mt.    Prospect Rd., east on Oakton St., south on Wolf Rd., Howard to Lee St.

 

Traveling through McHenry, Lakemore, Island Lake, Wauconda,

Lake Barrington, Lake Zurich, Barrington, Palatine, Arlington Heights,

Mount Prospect and Des Plaines.

 

Traveling speed average approximately 25 miles per hour.

 Escorted through each community without stopping.
